About Me

Hello, I’m Amanda, the person behind Dog Training with Amanda. I’m based in Crawley in West Sussex, where I live with my family and dogs.

I’m a mum, a music lover, a dog lover, and someone who has always been fascinated by how dogs think and behave. Living with dogs day to day has taught me that they are all individuals, each with their own personalities, quirks, and ways of communicating with us. Winnie and Toast keep life lively and remind me every day why understanding dogs properly matters so much.

That curiosity about behaviour naturally led me into dog training. I wanted to help owners understand their dogs better and feel more confident in guiding them.

Dogs also have an amazing way of teaching us patience, humour, and the importance of good snacks!

You might be here because…

Life with your dog isn’t quite as easy as you hoped it would be.

Maybe your puppy is full of enthusiasm but short on manners. Maybe walks have started to feel stressful, or you’re not sure if you’re doing the right thing.

You’re not alone. Most dog owners go through these stages and with the right guidance things can become much easier.

My approach

My approach is simple and kind. I believe dogs learn best when they feel safe and understood, so my training focuses on clear communication, good choices, and practical skills that make everyday life easier.

My aim is always to support owners without judgement and help both dog and human feel more confident.

My background

Dog Training with Amanda started because of my own highly reactive dog, so I understand firsthand how challenging and emotional it can be, and why kind, practical training really matters. We couldn't go anywhere and I didn't understand why she was so lovely in the home and so aggressive looking outside on a walk. She would lunge, growl, show teeth and bark. I know know that to have been fear and her being scared. It was a game changer for us.

Alongside running Dog Training with Amanda and providing dog training in Crawley and across West Sussex, I also work within a veterinary practice. This keeps me closely connected to the welfare side of dogs’ lives and the bigger picture of their health.

I’m also a qualified Dynamic Dog Practitioner, which means I look at how a dog moves as well as how they behave, helping to spot things that might affect their comfort or learning.

What I enjoy most about my work is seeing the moment things start to make sense for both dog and owner. When that understanding grows, life with your dog becomes much more enjoyable. Through Dog Training with Amanda, I support dog owners in Crawley and across West Sussex with kind, practical dog training that helps both dogs and their owners feel more confident.

Services

Hi, I’m Amanda – your local, force-free dog trainer in Crawley, West Sussex (near Gatwick).
I help puppies, adolescent dogs, and their owners build calmer, happier lives together using kind, effective training that works in the real world.

With years of experience and a focus on science-based, reward-led methods, I offer a range of dog training services across Crawley and surrounding areas, including:

  • Puppy training (8 weeks to 9 months)

  • Next steps / adolescent dog training

  • Reactivity Classes

  • One-to-one training for reactivity issues

  • Canine Hoopers classes

  • Dog wedding chaperone services

  • Dynamic Dog assessments for pain-related behaviour

Helping dogs who are struggling – not just misbehaving

I’m a qualified Dynamic Dog Practitioner, which means I’m trained to spot the subtle signs that your dog’s behaviour might be caused by pain or discomfort.

Many dogs are labelled “difficult” when they’re actually hurting — and a study by Daniel Mills found that around 80% of dogs showing behaviour problems had undiagnosed pain.

My in-depth assessments explore your dog’s movement, posture, and full background. I’ll review video and photo evidence, make detailed notes, and create a professional report for you and your vet — giving you the clearest path forward.

Real-life training that puts your dog first

Whether your dog is pulling on the lead, struggling with recall, or lacking confidence, I’m here to help with positive, practical training. Every session is personalised and rooted in your dog’s wellbeing. Puppy and reactivity classes held in Crawley.

A little more about me

When I’m not training, I’m usually walking or working with my own two dogs — a Labrador x Collie and a Labrador x Pointer (probably!). I also juggle a busy family life with two boys, do aerial hoop classes and bake lots at home in Crawley.

I’m proud to be a member of The Dog Trainer School, committed to upholding the highest standards of modern, ethical dog training — including continued professional development, collaboration with other trainers, and prioritising the wellbeing of both dogs and their humans.
